Internasjonal konsensus om denne sykdomsterminologien er i utvikling. Oppdatert anbefalt begrep per desember 2025 (1) er «primary brain calcification» fremfor «primary familial brain calcification». Det Norskspråklige begrepet bør følge same logikk, altså «primær hjerneforkalkning» i stedet for «primær familiær hjerneforkalkning».

International consensus on this disease terminology is evolving. The updated recommended term as of December 2025 (1) is «primary brain calcification» rather than «primary familial brain calcification». The Norwegian-language term should follow the same logic, i.e. «primær hjerneforkalkning» instead of «primær familiær hjerneforkalkning».
